The Christmas Countdown

Today is the start of counting the 24 days before Christmas. Here in Germany, they do this through the use an of Advent Calendar. The children or even adults start to open tiny christmas packages or windows from a big calendar as a start of the countdown before Christmas. Each window or package is numbered from 1-24, so that means 24 days of different packages or gifts. It may not be big gifts, nowadays most calendars have chocolates hidden behind the windows or little toys. Most parents though use their creativity and make their own authentic advent calendars. As a kindergarden teacher, I find it really good to experience Christmas in the eyes of the children. Their excitement is so contagious.
For our kids, we made calendars like that of a gingerbread house. Gingerbreads is also a traditional christmas goody.
