Red currants
When we bought this house, one of the things that attracted me to it is the garden we have in the back. Although we live in the middle of the city, there is nevertheless a small garden included in the house. What made it more exciting is that I saw some kind of bushes planted. Since it was still winter there were no leaves to see which kind of plant they were. The owner then told me they are raspberries and red currants. Wow! I got so excited, I am like a child when it comes to picking berries and all. I used to just pick ( or should I say steal?) red currants and blackberries from our neighbors. Now I have my own to pick. Let me tell you it's not as delicious as I remebered it to be. I used to not get enough of them (probably because it's not mine) but today I picked about 1.5 kilos of red currants and ate probably about at least 250 grams of it!! And there's still more of them out ripening on their stems.. what shall I do with them? I plan to give at least some to my colleague but I don't know what to do with the rest. She told me I can make a jam out of it. I haven't really tasted a red currant jam ever. Have you or do you have any tips for me? It would be a pity to throw these yummy red currants. I do get some help from all the birds gulping them each time. But there is just too much of them and less birds and people to eat them. The V. wants to have the red currants uprooted after summer. He thinks we should plant there something more special than red currants. The raspberries are not yet out but I think they are yummier than red currants and I know a number of people who would willingly get them fresh from me :) oh by the way, it was also a bit of hard work picking these berries, now I know why they are a bit expensive when you buy them.

That's a pretty bush! I really do not know how to make red currant jam. But I suppose it's all the same for all fruits... Google mo nalang, haha! Sayang din naman talaga to throw them away. Diba maasim?
We used to have a small bush of blackberries in our old baguio house. I think it's still there.
BTW, i tagged you. Please do it this time?? hehe It's fun, promise!
ang dami! the kids love them, too. what we do is we bring them to kindergarten and let the kids gooble them up. my mom in law and my sis in law make jam out of them, too. let me check their recipes. masarap naman red currant jam yun nga lang, super ma trabaho daw. and you would need those jam glasses, mag ipon ka na :D
I didn't know what currant is but know I know it's Johannisbeere. Of course you can make jam out of it my mother and grandma did ! I remember it tastes delicious. I am sure you can find a recepe on Internet or amongst the German housewives ! I never did any jam or jelly because my men don't eat it !

500gms Gelierzucker (mabibili mo yan supermarket)
1Kg Red Currant
Wash the berries and strained,then put the sugar and berries in a pot stir until mixed and dissolve for about 3mins, let boil until thick. Tapos yun na ilagay mo na sa mga mini glasses na may takip, takpan mo agad after mo ma transfer,then let it cool =P
additional nga pala, slow cooking lang ha or else magtatalsikan yan, ayaw mo naman shempre magkaroon ng red dots ang bago mong kitchen =P

ay, nauna na si bulilay sa recipe. hahaha. pero eto rin sabi nung aking oma naman - better buy the Extra Gelier Zucker from Dr. Oetker kasi yun daw ang the best for doing marmalades and gelee. good luck!
Your photos of the currant fruits are so yummy! (even though I haven't tasted one before) I like the story that goes with the photos too!
