Frankfurt Discoveries

We've had lots of snow last week and 2 snow days inclusive - kindergarten and other schools  were close- So lots of irritated parents who did not know what to do with their children and happy teachers who suddenly found themselves with some free time....here's a picture taken on Monday before the real snow chaos begun taken on our walk

So what to do on snow days? I have just submitted my essay and was not in the mood to study again after a weekend of lots of cramming and panic.. I needed to go to Frankfurt to do something, I took the train and The V. picked me up from Frankfurt. On our way home we decided to eat there and found a little restaurant. Just a simple one nearby Frankfurt Main Train Station.. what a catch! A fish restaurant in the middle of Frankfurt's red district. .. for one moment I thought I was near the beach...i could smell the sea, sand  and sun the moment that plate of grillled dorade(sea bream) landed in front of me. Yum! For €8:00 I would definitely come back in that restaurant. What a treat!

The restaurant also has a fish shop - so I could buy fish galore at reasonable prices! This fish vendor was so in for it for having his picture taken :) He was nice to give me 2 extra limes and gave me a wonderful service - will definitely shop for some more fresh fish next week. For those in the Philippines - shrimps are sold here semi-cooked. I was surprised myself when I saw this here in Germany but I thought since we live far from the ocean could be the case - till I saw it in Barcelona.. this way the shrimps stay fresh longer...

Indeed - Frankfurt still surprises me after all these years. Hope to do some blogging about this city now that I don't travel anymore. Much as well make use of my location.

Fun Saturday

Snow is still here and it really wants to stay it seems.. this is the longest winter ever it seems! Anyway, at least there are some nice things going on despite the snow.

Just this weekend, I went to the Paperworld Fair in Frankfurt. Lots of things to see out there but I am there basically to join some of the activities they do. So many beautiful paper to touch and see but not to buy unfortunately, not unless you are a wholesaler and you can buy in bulk. But for normal customers like me - nothing. It was amazing to see how cheap some of the prices are and when you buy them in the store - they'll be like 3x or 4x the price! My goodness.

Anyway, here are some beautiful things at the Paperworld - unfortunately, I am not allowed to take some of the most beautiful pictures, you know, trade secrets of whatever. This is the first activity I joined in and came up with such a beautiful work of art (haha!) well it was fun anyway...

I really wanted to do some jewelry making and yes finally I found it ... it was really hard. I am so proud of myself. I almost gave up but my friendly neighbors encouraged me. So nice to meet complete strangers who lend a helping hand :) even if it was just about tying a knot.
I did one more jewelry making, it was not as special as that one, a craft with  a small penguin and that was it. All these things take a long time believe me - so many things to do really. Here I did manage to take a photo on one of the paper displays.. It was such a fun Saturday, hope to come again next year :) - that is if Iwill get a ticket.

Weekend with Friends

This post took some time to be published. Despite going back to work after being really sick I am still not back to my normal self. Can't wait till the Easter break.. aahhh don't we all need a break?See no evil, hear no evil, say no evil

The series of pictures taken are from the weekend with E. and T. This was taken in Casino for Communication in Frankfurt. It is nothing similar to a casino rather it is a museum where you actively take part in the activities. Casino probably relates to the way you deal with the different exhibits/games around the museum. The main objective of the whole visit is to evaluate your own communication skills, how creative you are in communicating with your partner/friends and if you are actually a good listener. It's a wonderful way of spending a rainy afternoon with a company of good natured, witty friends. This was the first stop, objective is to get the same item like your partner`s without looking at it but merely by touching it and telling her how your item feels like.

In this game, a moderator gets the card and describes the figure to the rest of the group by just telling them the different shapes on the picture. Here's the result...this was really hard and as you can see, only 1 got the figure correctly and that's not me. :) mine is the one in the middle. The game goes like this: you get a card with a name of the figure you have to make. You have to make a figure out of that object within a minute without talking to your partner. The other team will try to guess the figure, if they guess it correctly, one point for you :) I actually didn't know how to start with the figure using all those wooden blocks and sticks. I just followed The V and realised it along the way :0) almost like in real life when I don't know what he is up to..This is a challenge - to build the same figure on the card -- only you don't see it, your partner tells you which block to choose and how to arrange it. A challenge indeed! But I got it - good teamwork with my partner , not The V. but with E.Here's T. (with partner The V.) they were also a good team- I think men like such games, reminds me of kids excited over their building blocks. This game needs concentration - it's like a roulette but instead of numbers you have figures on it. Then you need to write 10 words about the figure in a minute. If the other people playing the game has the same word then you all score a point, if only you then no point. So the trick is to know what the other players are thinking.

Well that was it - there are 9 stations to play different games. It really is very interesting and is lots of fun! So if there is one such museum near your area, would be a nice place to go with friends.

Frankfurt Marathon

I went to watch Sex and the City with a friend last Wednesday. I thought it was a nice movie, funny and sentimental in some of the scenes, of course there's a lot about shoes and men and talk about sex. But hey, I want to have a nice, light evening and enjoy a movie. Not think about serious politics and argue about world peace.

Well that wasn't the highlight of my evening in Frankfurt - there was a marathon in the city known as JP Morgan Chase Marathon which had 73,719 participants! It was a 5 kilometer marathon.

It was interesting to watch all these runners with their colourful t-shirts and gear. Each participant was sponsored by his company, so each of the runner wore a different attire. Some companies have 10 people, some 2o and more , some just about 5.
While watching the happy or tired faces of the runners I can't help but overhear their conversation.
Runner 1: ..exhaling, inhaling really hard.. "i'm so tiiiii....reeed...".looking around nervously., left, right.. almost out of breath talking to runner 2 "are we theeeerrrrreeee yet?"
Runner 2: .."exhaling, inhaling really hard and almost out of breath... "no, no, mc donald's is on the next turn
Me: What??? hahahahahhaahha, my friend and I had a blast laughing. I thought these runners are here for a good cause.
And here's another one....
Runner 1: talking to runners 2,3,4,5,6 "Ok, now I'm going to the corner and you better look real good."
Me: Hmmmm, I wonder what he's up to
Runner 1: goes to the corner, takes something from his belt bag in a flash. Suddenly a small hand held video camera is produced and shouting to runners 2-6 "ok, all set!" (bear in mind he does this with thousands of people behind him, there's danger he might be run over by the crowd)
Runners 2,3,4,5,6: panting, waving, , posing, giving that exhausted look to the camera
Runner 1 : "ok now me" in a flash giving his video camera to runner 6 and assuming position with runners 2,3,4,5 now panting, waving, posing, giving that exhausted look to the camera
Me: thinking to myself - "all for the love of pictures" and while in the midst of this thought a man walked past me.

Me: "What the??? "
A participant of the marathon just walked past me, or should I say nordic walked past me, with those 2 long poles along with him. I thought marathons are runned not walked. Well I guess I was wrong, I'm just wondering if those 2 long poles haven't hurt anyone.

Too bad our movie had to start so we run off to the cinema with barely a few minutes left, otherwise there would have been more stories.
